Lady Cougars 67 Blount 39
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It was 20 to 6 before Blount could blink as a hot handed Bella Lester poured through 10 first quarter points in a game where Campbell led from wire-to-wire at Brown Gym. Region 2 rivals William Blount and Campbell met up for the second time in less than three weeks after Campbell won on Wallace Court on Nov. 28.
William Blount mustered a late first quarter run, but Campbell quickly doused that flicker of a comeback. The Lady Governors chopped the Lady Cougars 14 point lead in half at 24-17. Campbell promptly scored 13 of the last 16 points to push its 22-12 first quarter lead out to 37-20 at intermission. Campbell’s largest lead of the first half came at 37-18.
The Lady Cougars were 9 of 12 at the stripe. Beyond the arc, Campbell drained six first half threes. Campbell posted 15 second quarter points to the Lady Governors eight.
A new half featured more of the first half same, buckets by Bella Lester as Campbell out paced Blount 19 to 8. The lead, the largest, of 28 came after three quarters at 56-28. Saylor Hutchison continued to find her range with three threes including an old fashioned three point play. Lester was tops for Campbell with 19 while Hutch rang up 17.
Abby Paul drained a three for Campbell’s final points giving the Lady Cougars 11 made threes on the night.
Every Lady Cougar that played scored. Paul finished with three as did Aleah Woodson. Lacey Pemberton scored eight with five points coming from Carley Kitts and four each came from Jayden Kitts and Preslee Chapman. A couple of points were scored by Destiny Rutherford and Reagan Stanfill.
Campbell quickly returned to the win column, 67-39, after a Friday night loss at Karns. It’s a 9 & 1 mark for the Lady Cougars as Blount falls to 5 & 5.
The Lady Cougars venture to White Pine on Thursday for a match-up with the Lakeway Christian Lady Lions. It’s a single girls varsity game only tipping off at 6pm. Josh Parker sends you the radio only coverage over the WLAF – Doyle’s Tire Sports Network.
Campbell’s December 18th games at Oneida have been rescheduled for Sat., Jan. 20; Lady Cougars tip at 3pm followed by the Cougars and Indians at 4:30pm. The Cougars only home game with First Baptist Academy (FBC) for Saturday, December 16th is cancelled. A change of date has come about for the Lady Cougars only home contest with Walker Valley. The Lady Cougars host the Lady Mustangs on Tuesday, December 19, at 6pm, with a Lady Cougar JV game starting at 4:30pm. The Cougars also play on Tuesday, December 19, in the Anderson County Christmas Tourney. That’s a 1:45pm match-up with the Carter Hornets. WLAF will send you all the live coverage.
