JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- In honor of the Campbell County Senior Center celebrating its upcoming 50th anniversary, County Commissioners passed a proclamation in their honor on Monday evening at the regular monthly meeting of the commission. Senior Center Director Butch Kohlmeyer, Administrative Assistant Pat Orta and other employees were in attendance for the proclamation.

Commissioner Beverly Hall sponsored the proclamation.

“The Senior Citizens Center has a big birthday coming up next month and we want to make everyone aware of it. We want to recognize them, and we want everyone to come by,” said County Mayor Jack Lynch.

The Senior Center was established in November of 1974.

“Fifty years ago, in 1974 you all may remember a county commissioner named Jess Longmire, he was the center’s first director and led the way and began to lead the way and serve the elderly citizens of the community, and whereas, the senior citizens center provides a variety of services to seniors throughout the county,” Lynch said.

The center does meals on wheels to the local area providing 40 to 50 meals a day for seniors in need. It also has activities, not only arts and crafts, but exercises and evidence-based things to help seniors stay young and improve their quality of life.

“These services would not be possible without the senior center…this proclamation is presented for all their dedication and devotion they have provided for the citizens of this community,” Lynch said.

Commissioner Beverly Hall sponsored the proclamation and presented it to director Kohlmeyer.

“I appreciate all of you all, Pat, she does 95-percent of the work, the county is very blessed, we appreciate you all,” Kohlmeyer said.

Commissioner Hall previously served on the senior center board for eight years.

“I got to know them as a family and I love everyone of them; and I will be there for the senior center,” Hall said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-10/22/2024-6AM)
