Campbell comes up short in key district games with Powell

Cougars and Lady Cougars are in the midst of a stretch of five games over nine days

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- On Tuesday night on Brown Court, Campbell lost a couple of tough basketball games to the Powell Panthers. However, Powell left town knowing it definitely had been challenged.

The girls game was never the same after a scuffle ensued at end of the first half. Click here to see what transpired right before halftime with Powell leading 24 to 19. The Powell player that appeared to be the instigator was ejected and so was Campbell’s Addy Coleman as she tried to protect herself. Powell won 61 to 37 to clinch the regular season district title with a 10 & 0 mark.

Preslee Chapman and Reagan Davis each scored 11 for the Lady Cougars. Taraji Abernathy had five points while Kaylee Albright and Addy Coleman tallied four each with Karlie Allen chipping in two points. Campbell is 12 & 87 while winning seven out of nine district games so far. The final district game is at home on Thursday when Central visits. The Lady Cougars have already wrapped up second place in the district.

Jake Hatmaker’s 23 points was tops in the game as Powell won the night cap 69 to 63. Will Croley rang up 13 points as Hunter Dotson scored 10, Koalton Cupp and Caden Heatherly had five points-a-piece. Jack Sexton scored four, and Sam Sexton had three. Campbell is now 5 & 18 and is still searching for its first district win.

The District 3-AAAA Tournament will be played at Halls. The Cougars first game is Wed., Feb. 18, and the Lady Cougars first game is Thu., Feb 19. The bracket, dates and times will be released in a few days. 

The final regular season home game is Thursday when Knoxville Central visits Brown Gym. On Sat., CC plays at Huntsville against Scott to close out the regular season. It will be a varsity affair only with Scott on Valentine’s Day as the Lady Cougars game begins at 4pm with the Cougars game to follow at 5:30pm.
