Johnny Byrge and former La Follette Councilman Mark Hoskins are latest to request a petition
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)– For the first time in weeks, someone has requested a petition to run for office in the November election. However, no one is yet to return a petition though almost a month is left before the qualifying deadline of August 15. A couple of political veterans picked up a petition on Wednesday to run in the La Follette City election on November 5. Former Board of Education member Johnny Byrge and former La Follette Councilman Mark Hoskins requested petitions on Wednesday. Byrge plans to run for mayor while Hoskins seeks a council seat.
Monday, June 17, was the first day to pick up a petition to run in the November election, and 11 petitions have been requested so far. The deadline to qualify is Thu., Aug. 15, at noon.

The City of La Follette and the Town of Caryville have seven combined posts to be filled. Caryville will elect a mayor (Bobby Stooksbury) and three aldermen; Ward 1 (Patrick Pebley), Ward 2 (Eric Jones) and Ward 3 (Lloyd Lawson). Voters in the City of La Follette will elect a mayor (Cliff Jennings) and two council members (Phillip Farmer and Wayne Kitts). Incumbents are in parentheses.
Caryville Mayor Bobby Stooksbury announced in May that he will not seek re-election.
