Caryville has an opening for a library director

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – On Monday afternoon, the Caryville Recreation Committee met and discussed the 2023 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that was awarded to the town in December in the amount of $627,005. The monies received from the grant will be used to build restrooms at the new Caryville Cares Playground and an amphitheater.

The engineers will be coming on April 2 to discuss the location of the restrooms. The park could possibly be ready to open in April, according to Alderman Patrick Pebley. He reported that there is still some concrete work to complete as well as some paving.

Pebley updated progress on Asbury Park. The top rail cover on the fence has been replaced, a grill at the pavilion has been replaced and five tons of sand has been spread on the two fields, Pebley added.

In the regular monthly meeting of the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen, the board passed Ordinance No: 2024-01 amending the zoning map by changing the zoning for property on Elkins Road from R-1 Low Density Residential to R-2 Medium Density Residential, and Ordinance No: 2024-02 amending the zoning ordinance article VII section 709.20 uses permitted on review establishing requirements for cryptocurrency mining were both passed on a second reading.

The board approved Ordinance No: 2024-03 amending the annual operating budget for fiscal year beginning July 1, 2023, and ending June 30, 2024.

The board agreed to place an ad and run it for two weeks for a library director. Logan Birdsong has been the library director for the past seven years and recently resigned. Birdsong offered to help with the interview process and some of the training of the new director.

The board discussed Ordinance No: 93-6 Street repair regulations. The original ordinance was written in 1993. After a brief discussion, Mayor Bobby Stooksbury told the board that the ordinance needs to be enforced. He requested that Public Works Director David Muse work with City Attorney Adam Bullock to draft a form to go along with the ordinance. After this form is completed, an amendment will need to be made to the ordinance. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/12/2024-6AM)
