JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Educators make a difference in students’ lives every day. For many students, having a school employee who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher, or school employee who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hardworking educators with a weekly feature.

Brandy Sweat is Eagle Tire Pros Educator of the Week. She is the Librarian and Media Specialist at Campbell County High School. She has been an educator for 19 years.

Brandy Sweat is Eagle Tire Pros Educator of the Week; She is the Librarian and Media Specialist at Campbell County High School and has been an educator for 19 years.

She shared a little about herself.

“I live in Speedwell, and during my time off I enjoy the company of my family, friends, and pets. I love to hike, read, explore new places, travel, tending to my flower gardens in the summer, as well as kayaking, live music, and festivals,” Sweat said.

She currently works at Campbell County High School as the school Library Media Specialist and was “blessed to spend her early years teaching English and later serve as the Librarian for Jellico High School.”

She said she became a librarian in order to “share her love and passion for books.”

“Books have the power to inspire, encourage imagination, take you to far-off places, allow you to learn how to have empathy for those around you, introduce you to a world of knowledge, and the right book at the right time can change your life,” Sweat said.

She found her own inspiration for education in a librarian.

“Miss Janet Johnson, the former Librarian at Jellico High School, mentored me and taught me the ins and outs of being a school librarian and played a huge role in developing my passion for the job. Miss Janet was never too busy to take my call or come down and help me in the library when I was brand new to the position. For that I am forever grateful.  I continue to treasure the lessons I learned from her, the conversations we had, and I will forever value her guidance throughout my career.  I miss her often and I still wish I could pick up the phone and call her!” Sweat said.

Her favorite part about being a librarian at CCHS is the students and helping to foster their love of reading.

“I love placing the right book in the hands of students who come back to me excited about how much they loved the story they just read and can’t wait to read another. Equally important is the relationships I build with my students. From my former position at Jellico High School Library to my current position at the Campbell County High School Library, these kids have and continue to steal my heart and fill up my cup. I love what I do and cherish all of my former and current students,” Sweat said.

The school where she works and has worked in the past is another favorite part of her career.

“On top of building strong relationships with my students, I have made some incredible friends and lasting memories at both Jellico High School and Campbell County High School. I work and have worked with some of the finest people I know. Having worked in both high schools in the school district, I can confidently say that we are blessed to have teachers and administration from one end of the county to the other that truly care about our students and they have inspired and guided me throughout my career to be best version I can be for these kids,” Sweat said.

She also said, “it was an honor to be nominated as an educator of the week” and that she had a special thank you to say.

“Being nominated for teacher of the week has made me so grateful and has also allowed me the opportunity to say thank you. Thank you to my Jellico High School Family for all the love and support in my early teaching days and shaping me into the educator I am now. I love and miss you all so much! Thank you to Campbell County High School for making me feel so welcome and accepting me into the fold as one of your own and always supporting my library programs, encouraging our students to read, and use the library as a resource!  I look forward to many more years of serving you and our student body.”
