‘The officer said he would do his best to find it, and he did’- Boy’s dad

La Follette Police Sergeant Anthony Mahar tracked down a stolen bicycle within hours of the theft.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- An 11 year old boy was gifted a bicycle for his birthday on Wednesday, September 24. However, by the time he made it home from school, the bike was gone from his yard.

His mother called police around 6pm to report the missing bicycle, and La Follette Police Sergeant Anthony Mahar said he would do his best to find it. About three hours later, the sergeant knocked on the boys’ door with his bike.

WLAF News caught up with Sergeant Anthony Mahar as he was starting his Thursday night shift.

“I know where there are some places around that have a lot of bicycles, and I visited them. Sure enough at one stop I located a brand new bike that fit the description of the missing bicycle,” said Sgt. Mahar.

“I just wanted you guys (WLAF) to have a good story regarding officers in our community,” said the boy’s father. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/26/2025-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
