JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF) – The Campbell County Board of Education approved on Monday evening to advertise immediately for the position of interim school director, after the recent announcement of current director Jennifer Fields’ retirement.

The board approved to advertise the position starting on October 21. Applications for the position of interim director must be turned in by October 30 to BOE Secretary Gail Parks at her office. It was also approved on Monday for the BOE to hold a special called meeting on November 3rd at 6 pm to look at resumes “and make a selection,” according to BOE chairman Jeffery Miller.

“We are going to have to have someone take the helm January 1,” Miller said.

The board also set some parameters for the interim director position, stating that the interim will receive current compensation as the current director.  If a current employee is hired as the interim, after they serve in the position, they can return to their old position. However, the interim cannot apply for the position. The interim position will last until the new director is named.

Multiple business agenda items were also approved on Monday in one motion without discussion. These items included a geotechnical exploration for Campbell County High School’s indoor practice facility.

Board members also approved a contract revision to bus #45, as well as a 2025 Local Education Agency Compliance Report.

A special education instructional assistant position at Jacksboro Elementary School was approved. This will be a 29-hour per week position and funded with IDEA Part B. The creation of the position came as a request from the county’s special education director.

Final business approved at Monday’s BOE meeting was to reschedule the CCBOE November 11th meeting to Tuesday, November 18th at 5:30pm at the courthouse due to the 11th being Veteran’s Day.
