Emergency personnel spend the balance of Sunday afternoon on operation

La Follette Rescue Squad brought in two boats in the recovery effort.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- A college student enjoying the weekend on Norris Lake accidentally lost his life on Sunday afternoon. “A fun day at the lake turned tragic,” said Campbell County Sheriff Wayne Barton.

TWRA officials are describing the death of a 19-year old Kentucky man as a swimming incident. “The young man left a private dock on Country Oaks Lane and went into the water and did not resurface,” said Barton.

It was first reported that a male swimming in the Big Creek area of Norris Lake, off Country Oaks Lane in the Demory community, went under the water and did not resurface.

Multiple agencies responded

The call came in at 12:38pm, and the body of the man from Fort Knox, Kentucky, was recovered just before 5pm Sunday.

The La Follette Rescue Squad, TWRA, Campbell County EMS and Sheriff’s Office responded.

The TWRA robot (sonar) located the man’s body, and then the divers recovered him, according to officials. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-10/05/2025-5PM)
