LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- The City of LaFollette is hoping to wrap up the Beech St. paving project by the end of the year.

In a meeting with the contractors Tuesday, a timeline for the project was discussed. While the contract is dated for a Jan. 21, 2025 conclusion, city officials were clear they would like the street to be repaved by the end of next month.

Work on the sidewalks is underway.

“It has to be done by the end of December,” said LaFollette City Administrator Stan Foust. Completing it by the end of December will save the city from having to go back to the Tennessee Department of Transportation and ask for an extension.

With city officials, staff from Canon and Canon Consulting Engineers and The Rogers Group Construction in attendance possible obstacles were reviewed. Aside from weather, The Rogers Group is working on a project on Highway 63 that will need to be completed before Beech St. can be paved, the company representative said. He estimated that would take three weeks.

With that in mind, the Beech St. work should start by Dec. 16, said Wesley Stokes of Canon and Canon.

“You know the timeline the city wants,” said Stokes.
