Barbara Jean (Rector) Stepp, age 90, of Caryville

Barbara Jean (Rector) Stepp, age 90, of Caryville, TN passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Barbara was born to Dewey and Sinda Rector of Pioneer, Tn on September 19, 1934. Barbara was of strong Baptist Faith. Her front door was always open to everyone, especially her family. She loved gatherings at her house and cooking large meals for the family. She loved having fun and had a huge sense of humor, loved playing horseshoes and played basketball for Caryville High School.

She is preceded in death by her Husband: Marvin Stepp, Parents: Dewey and Sinda Rector, Son: Marvin Lee Stepp, Siblings: Harold Rector, Mildred McGee, Pauline Wright, Maxine Gibson, Gordon Rector, Grandson: Ryan Norton.

Survived by:

Son: Mark Stepp and wife Debbie

Step-Daughter: Melinda Johnson

Grandchildren: Tyler (Brooke) Stepp, Tanner (Hannah) Stepp, Drew (Heather) Norton, Marie (Ben) Roberts, Rachael (Jordan) Teague

Great-Grandchildren: Kaden Norton, Kinsley Norton, Jackson Norton, Archer Norton, Parker Lee Stepp, Payton Stepp, Eli Stepp, Paige Stepp, Catelyn Longmers, Grainger and Lorelai Teague 

Special thanks to Barbara’s caregivers Lisa Johns and Gail Barnett who cared for her and loved her very much. Lisa and Gail are like part of our family, and we appreciate and love them.

We would like to acknowledge Life Care of Jefferson City for the excellent care in Barbara’s time of need. The administrative staff were so kind and professional when we needed them. The nurses, CNA’s and others in unit one went above and beyond to care for Barbara in her final days. The unit one staff showed compassionate support, care and needed friendship toward Barbara and the family. 

Thank you, Smokey Mountain Hospice, for all the visits and phone calls and guidance on Barbara’s end of life journey.

Family will receive friends from 12-1 PM Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Cross-Smith Funeral Home and then proceed to Meredith Cemetery for 2 PM Graveside Service and Interment, Rev. Trevor Roberts Officiating.
