JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – At Monday’s County Workshop meeting, Commissioner Rusty Orick discussed the hiring process for a new administrative assistant. The insurance and personnel committee met recently about the issue and Orick said the commission would need to get the position filled as soon as possible.
“The biggest thing out the insurance and personnel committee meeting is hiring an administrative assistant for the commission with Amanda Grodeman vacating the position. I hate to see you go. You’ve done a great job and it’s been a big undertaking,” Orick said.
He also reported that the county had received 26 applicants for the position and that starting Wednesday night, the insurance and personnel committee will work to narrow it down to eight.
“We need to get this done as soon as possible and we may need to have a special-called meeting to get the new person hired. We need to not hold Amanda up, but we need her to train this next person,†Orick said.
Commissioners thanked Grodeman for her work as administrative assistant.
“Amanda Grodeman has been a backbone to this commission. She is going to be missed. She has done a great job, worked hard and been dedicated. We appreciate all you have done,” Commissioner Scott Kitts said.
“It’s going to be hard shoes to fill, we’ve got babied the last couple years having Amanda,” Orick said.
Orick also spoke to the commission about the need to increase the pay for administrative assistants and secretaries while attending various county meetings.
“They’re not making anything, and they are losing their family time,†Orick said.
At next week’s meeting, commissioners will vote on a new meeting pay schedule that will be set at $50 for the first hour meeting and $100 max for two-hour meetings.
“This change will only affect three people that does these meetings,†Orick said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/09/2024-6AM)
