Campbell and Clinton Amateur Radio Clubs invite you to get out and get on the air.

This is an event hosted by ARRL to show the capabilities of the amateur radio operator in the event failure of other communications occur or the need for communications in an area otherwise not serviced by other forms of communications. Everyone is invited to attend, and you do not have to be a licensed amateur radio operator to attend and participate.

Scout leaders might be interested in knowing that the clubs will have a special opportunity for scout troops in attendance. Scout leaders will be able to sign up for their troop to win a 2-meter amateur radio setup. The clubs are also able to help troops with merit badge opportunities.

If you are interested in becoming an amateur radio operator, you can attend one of the club meetings held monthly on the second Tuesday of the month starting at 7pm at the La Follette Roane State Campus. On the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Clinton Shoney’s starting at 7pm.

Other sponsors/ participants of the event are the organizations previously mentioned along with Cove Lake State Park, Campbell County Emergency Management Agency, Roane State Community College, Shoney’s-Clinton, and WLAF.

The primary purpose of field day is to test the group’s ability to plan operations that can be effective for an entire twenty-four-hour period, including operator endurance and adequate numbers of operators for a shift operation. The secondary purpose is to demonstrate the technical proficiency of the station that has been quickly constructed for the contacts. In theory, a better station will be capable of emergency operations in dire conditions such as designating a safety officer for the station or incorporating auxiliary power capabilities.

Any licensed amateur radio operator, non- licensed operators with an interest in amateur radio as long as they are with a licensed amateur radio operator can participate.
