Deputies tracked him down at his nearby home
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- A 911 call prompted deputies to be dispatched to a possible wreck and run on Carr Wynn Road late Saturday night.
Campbell Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Tindell located a vehicle that had run into a tree at 565 Carr Wynn Road. The person at the residence stated that a man ran from the scene.
Since there was no tag on the vehicle, Tindell did some investigating inside the vehicle and found a piece of mail with a name and address on it. Tindell and Sgt. Jordan Huskey drove over to the address which was about 800 feet from the scene of the wreck.
At 108 Gamble Lane, the deputies located the suspect, Jorge Bermea, at the back door of the home. Bermea had noticeable bruising and redness from where a seat belt would have been, according to the report from the CCSO.
Bermea allegedly told deputies he had been working that evening was not operating the vehicle at the time of the wreck. When asked if he would like to go to the scene of the accident, he stated to the officers that he would, the report.
Upon arrival to the scene, Bermea stated again that he was not operating the vehicle at the time of the incident, based on the deputies report.
Due to Bermea’s injuries correlating with those of a motor vehicle wreck and eyewitnesses on the scene, Deputy Tindell placed Bermea under arrest without incident.
While Tindell was transporting Bermea to the Campbell County Jail, Bermea allegedly said he was behind the wheel of the vehicle during the accident. He left the scene due to him thinking he would be in trouble and took the tag off in an attempt to not get caught by the police, according to the report from the CCSO.
Bermea, 26, of 108 Gamble Lane, La Follette, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, violation of the lane law, improper use of vehicle registration and failure to provide proof of insurance. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/18/2025-6AM)
