LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- At one time, this was the busiest gas station in the area, selling more gas than any other station.

The Peer Service Station on Hwy 25w south of Lafollette between Woodson’s and John Ward Pontiac. The station opened in August 1959, and at that time, it wasn’t even in the city limits of Lafollette. The city limits ended at the very end of the Woodson’s Shopping Center, old Woodson’s, and the Peer Station was located on the next piece of property on the Jacksboro side.

The station was constructed with Norris Craft Panel Glass, a new thing back then.

The station manager was L.D. Byrd and was owned by Shelby Petroleum Corporation, Russ Shelby, of Lafollette. Back then, it was opened 24 hours a day. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/13/2025-6AM)
