DUFF, TN (WLAF) – A La Follette woman on her way to pick up her grandchild at school was arrested for her second driving under the influence (DUI) charge.

Around 3:30 pm last Thursday, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher West was patrolling north on Highway 25W when he saw a car fail to obey a traffic control device. West turned around on the 2008 Chevy Impala and pulled it over near Wynn School and Kimberly Lane.

The driver of the car, 40-year- old Charity Lee Douglas, La Follette, told the deputy she was on her way to pick up her grandchild at Wynn School. West outlined in his report Douglas “lacked fine motor skills as she attempted to retrieve her driver license, registration and insurance, and she avoided eye contact.”

There was a 2 1/2 year old child in the back seat of the car, according to West. The deputy soon learned that Douglas’ driver’s license was revoked from a previous DUI.

Based on the report, Douglas told West that she had taken Suboxone and Gabapentin, both prescribed, within the past couple of hours. Douglas then failed a field sobriety test. She was allowed to call her husband to come pick up the child and the car.

Douglas was placed under arrest and charged with DUI and child endangerment. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/10/2021-6AM)
