JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- An odor coming from a donation to Goodwill on Thursday afternoon created immediate suspicion. “It could have been garbage or cleaning materials, but we’re waiting on test results,” said Jacksboro Chief of Police Daniel Smith.

A JPD Officer responded to check on a container of donated items and noticed an odor right away. Upon further investigation, the officer’s eyes began to burn after opening the lid. That prompted the Jacksboro Fire Department to respond.

“This was out of an abundance of caution, and it turned out that the officer checked out OK after visiting with medical personnel,” said Jacksboro Fire Chief Jason Shetterly.

“We called a task force to take the container and contents away for safety and for testing. We don’t have any test results back yet,” said Chief Smith. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/21/2026-6AM)
