JACKSBORO, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- The campaign is over, but for me, the work is just beginning.
I am humbled beyond words by the trust the people of Campbell, Claiborne, and Union Counties have placed in me. I am grateful for every vote, every prayer, every conversation, and every person who stood with me throughout this campaign. Being elected to serve as your next State Representative is one of the greatest honors of my life, and I understand the responsibility that comes with it.
I did not run for this office simply to have a title or a seat in the General Assembly. I ran because I believe District 36 deserves someone who will fight for us every single day. That commitment did not begin when the election was called. It began long before Election Day, and it has continued since the polls closed.
I have already begun preparing for the work ahead. I have been listening, learning, making plans, and talking with people about the issues that matter most to our communities. I believe we owe it to the people who elected us to begin working before we ever take the oath of office.
As the youngest member of the Tennessee General Assembly, I know I will have plenty of battles ahead of me. I know there will be Democratic Socialists in Nashville who have a very different vision for Tennessee and for America than the one I believe in. I did not run for this office expecting everyone to agree with me, and I certainly did not run because I wanted the easy path. I ran because the America that I believe in, that Charlie Kirk believed in, and that our American soldiers believe in…is worth fighting for.
When policies come before the General Assembly that threaten our freedoms, undermine our values, grow government unnecessarily, waste taxpayer dollars, or attempt to bring the failed policies of other states into Tennessee, I will push back. I will stand up and make my voice heard, regardless of who is on the other side of the argument.
I will fight for the Second Amendment, for the unborn, for strong families, for law enforcement, for our schools, for small businesses, and for the individual freedom that has made this country and this state so exceptional. I will fight to protect the conservative values that have made Tennessee a place where families want to live, businesses want to grow, and people want to raise their children.
I will fight every day to keep Tennessee, Tennessee.
I want to fight for better roads and infrastructure across our communities. I want to make sure our schools have the resources and opportunities necessary to prepare our students for the future. I want to encourage economic development and good paying jobs while making sure rural Tennessee continues to have a seat at the table. I want to protect taxpayers from unnecessary spending and make sure their hard earned money is treated with the respect it deserves.
Most importantly, I want the people of Campbell, Claiborne, and Union Counties to know that they have someone in Nashville who will listen.
During this campaign, I traveled thousands of miles across our district. I knocked on doors, made phone calls, mailed thousands of personal letters, attended community events, and sat down with people from all walks of life. Some conversations were about specific legislation. Others were simply about someone’s family, their business, their community, or what they hoped their children’s future would look like.
Those conversations mattered to me, and they will continue to matter.
The campaign may be over, but I am not going to stop listening to the people who gave me the opportunity to serve. I want to take those conversations with me to Nashville and make sure the voices of District 36 are heard. The people of District 36 did not elect me to go along to get along. They elected me to represent them, and I intend to do exactly that.
There will be difficult days ahead. There will be disagreements, difficult votes, and plenty of political pressure. I expect that. I also know that when the people of this district send me to Nashville, they are sending someone who is willing to stand up and fight when it matters.
I believe deeply in the future of District 36.
We have hardworking families, incredible small businesses, dedicated teachers, farmers, veterans, law enforcement officers, first responders, entrepreneurs, and people who simply love their communities and want to see them succeed. There is so much potential in Campbell, Claiborne, and Union Counties, and I believe our best days are still ahead.
My goal is to help make sure that opportunity reaches every corner of District 36.
I want people to look back on my time in the General Assembly and know that I showed up. I want them to know that I answered the phone, returned the call, listened to their concerns, and fought for them. I want them to know that I never forgot where I came from or who sent me to Nashville.
The office does not belong to me. It belongs to the people of District 36.
The election gave me the opportunity to serve. Now it is time to prove that I was worthy of the trust you placed in me.
I am ready to get to work. I am ready to fight for Campbell, Claiborne, and Union Counties. I am ready to stand up for the values that make Tennessee great, and I am ready to push back every day against those who threaten our way of life.
The campaign is behind us. The work ahead is what matters now, and I am honored to begin that work on behalf of the people of District 36.
I will fight for our district, I will fight for Tennessee, and I will do everything I can every single day to keep Tennessee, Tennessee.
Thank you,
Noah Smith
