John Winslow Morton, 87 of Norris, Tn; formerly of Campbell County, Tn. passed away on August 8, 2026 at U.T. Medical Center.

John was born to Elva and Hoyt Morton on April 21,1939 while they resided in Habersham, Tn. He attended school in the Campbell County School District. After high school, John joined the army in 1962 and was stationed in Minnesota as an Adjutant General’s Specialist. After being Honorably discharged, John completed his BS in Elementary Education at Cumberland College. Later in life, he also completed his Masters at Union College. His first job in education was in 1969. John’s last teaching job was in Anderson County Tennessee in 2017. That would be 48 years. Let’s acknowledge

that dedication.

John married Patricia Ann (Patti) Danner on December 20, 1986. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage, and they shared many adventures. John’s favorite adventure may have included his passion for motorcycling. One summer they set out on a cross-country trip on said motorcycle pulling a tiny camper. Oh, the stories they had from that memorable trip.

John is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Ann Morton; his parents Hoyt and Elva Morton; sister Reta Jones; brother Roger Morton; son-in-law Eric Heinz.

Grandchildren: Suzanna Perkins, Taylor Price (Josh), Emily Perkins, Brandon Woods, Luke Woods, Jonathan McKinney, Hunter Crisp, Beau Crisp, Josie Crisp, Myka Heinz, Quinn Heinz, Bodie Heinz, and Bowie Danner, Great-Grandchild: Creed Price

A celebration of a life well-lived will take place on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Cross-Smith Funeral Home 4:30 PM to 6 PM with funeral service to follow in Cross-Smith Chapel.
