JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- “You’re not old enough to retire,” said Circuit Court Clerk Bobby Vann when Janna Duncan announced she was retiring. Even though Duncan wanted to just ease out the door, she was surprised when members of Vann’s office and others who worked with Duncan gathered to say so long and best wishes on Thursday.

“You always hate to see a great employee leave,” said Mayor Jack Lynch.

Duncan’s track record is impressive and diverse. However, working with children has been the cornerstone of her career from 20-years in the school system, seven years in Juvenile Court and the last five years overseeing child support though Vann’s office. “Handling child support is a big job, and there was never a complaint about Janna,” said Vann.
A blind date with Jeff Duncan back in the 1980s worked out well for Janna and Jeff. The couple has been married 38 years, and they have two sons and two grandchildren, both girls. Spending time with her grandbabies is at the top of her “to do” list come July 1.

“I’ve had a lot of people help me along the way. It all started with my father-in-law Raymond Duncan calling Buck Violet. Mr. Violet was on the school board and found an opening at West La Follette School for me,” said Janna Duncan. Over her two decades, she worked at WLS and other elementary schools; Valley View, Jacksboro and Caryville. She also worked at Campbell High, Jacksboro and La Follette Middle Schools.
“Child support court was a good fit for me. Bobby chose well for me there,” said Duncan.

It all adds up to more than 32 years working for Campbell County. “It’s not often a county employee makes it to 30-years,” said Lynch.
Husband Jeff was also in attendance on Thursday. “Jeff has been so supportive of me in everything I’ve done. He’s so dedicated,” said Janna.

Janna Duncan spoke briefly to those in attendance inside the Criminal Courtroom. “Thank y’all. I’m gonna miss all of you,” said Duncan, whose last day will be June 30.
“Campbell County wishes you well and thanks you for your service,” said Lynch. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/26/2026-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
