JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Commission approved to ask for the Caryville Jacksboro Utility Commission (CJUC) overcharge issue to be placed on the agenda of the State Board of Utility Regulation for its September 10th meeting if negotiations and a settlement cannot be reached by July 24th.

At last week’s workshop, commission chairman Johnny Bruce asked County attorney Joe Coker to reach out to the attorney for CJUC once again regarding the issue and that if negotiations could not be made, then the issue would be sent onto the state board.

The county says the utility district overcharged by $510,755 and is requesting a settlement for the money.

At the May commission meeting, commissioners had asked county attorney Joe Coker to speak to CJUC attorney Rob Asbury and to send him documents related to the issue showing the overcharges, which according to county officials date back to around three years ago.

Coker said he had spoken to Asbury, who told him that an attorney in Nashville was handling it for the CJUC. That Nashville attorney was supposed to have responded to Coker by Monday’s commission meeting, However, Coker said that there was no response yet.

Chairman Bruce made the motion that if negotiations were not reached to authorize County Mayor Jack Lynch to “seek assistance” by asking that the issue be placed on the agenda for the September 10 meeting of the Tennessee Board of Utility Regulations.

This was unanimously approved. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/16/2026-6AM)
