JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Dangerous road issues on Highway 63, the General Carl W. Stiner Hwy, were once again discussed by several county commissioners on Monday evening during the commission workshop.
Commissioner Beverly Hall brought the issue up again, saying that the people using the shoulder of the turnoff like a turning lane was going to cause a wreck on multiple turnoffs going up the valley.
Commission Dewayne Kitts echoed this, as did Commission Zach Marlow.
Kitts said the state was aware of the issue and that the commission had made them aware of it more than once.
Commissioner Hall asked the county Mayor Jack Lynch if he could send a letter to the Tennessee Department of Transportation asking them to put signs up saying it was not a turning lane.
Lynch said he would send something.
Commissioners also heard about traffic concerns on College Hill due to speeders. The area is posted at 15 miles per hour.
One of the county courthouse bailiffs who lives in the area spoke, saying there were kids in the area and that he was worried kids were going to get hurt and that people used it like a “racetrack.”
County Mayor Jack Lynch suggested putting up “no trough traffic” signs up.
Commissioner Beverly Hall suggested having more patrols in the area.
Commissioner Johnny Bruce asked County Mayor Lynch to talk to Ron Dilbeck and ask him his thoughts on a solution. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/09/2026-6AM)
when planning the 63 road, they should have planned for turn off lanes. why would anyone turning off 63, want to wait for traffic to go thought the red lights when they can go on shoulder to turn, very poor planning, if you ask me. I live up the valley, and I think I would have planned on turn lanes on every red light and turn. people want to get where there going and when you have someone sleeping at the red lights. what do you do? most people go around. In case no one has notice, people have a tenace to make their own way of doing things. Just saying.
