Lady Cougars and Cougars lace up their sneakers for summertime hoops

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Jason Kitts’ Lady Cougars and Brad Honeycutt’s Cougars are in the middle of summertime practice before the TSSAA dead period.  Nothing simulates game time reps, and that’s exactly what the Lady Cougars and Cougars are going to get in the next couple of weeks.

Coach Kitts is in his sixth year manning the Lady Cougars squad, and Coach Honeycutt is in his first season in charge of the Cougars. Both are no strangers to summer ball, however, as Honeycutt led the Lady Cougars previously for seven seasons.

The Lady Cougars will travel for their scrimmages. A couple of play days are still being worked out, while one is official. Campbell’s Lady Cougars will travel to Coalfield on Friday, with the tip time to be determined. Coalfield has been a recent 1A powerhouse, making back-to-back state tournament appearances with a 57-15 record over the past two seasons.

As for the Cougars, Campbell hosts a play day on Saturday at John R. W. Brown Gymnasium. Campbell County will play in two varsity games and one JV game. The Cougars start the day off with a 9:30 am tip versus Christian Academy of Knoxville. Campbell gets a short break until 11:30 am when the Orange-and-Blue plays Rhea Coounty. At 12:30 pm, the Cougar JV’s will see the court against Rhea’s junior varsity team.

The Orange-and-Blue will get as much work as possible in until the TSSAA dead period, which is June 20-July 5th. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 06-09-2026 6AM)
