CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Caryville Planning Commission met Thursday afternoon without any new business on the agenda.

The commission did discuss the report from the building official/codes enforcement. On the report, there were five violations. The first violation was for two structures on Pearl Street that were in disrepair, had garbage around it and the grass needed to be mowed. The next three violations were on Main Street; two violations were for weeds and grass that needed to be mowed and the final violation was for inoperable vehicles.

For the remainder of the meeting, training was conducted by Harold Edwards a regional planner with the East Tennessee Development District. The training discussed why a planning program is needed for the town. Edwards told the commission the program protects the health and safety of the public, protects property value, manages growth in the area (plans how the town should grow) and economic development.

Thursday, July 9, at 5pm, is the next scheduled planning commission meeting. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 06/05/2026-6AM)
