The two day camp begins on Tuesday

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Artist Johnna Baird is hosting an Equine Art Camp on Josh Goins farm. The camp is for aspiring young artists or kids with a passion for horses

Baird attended Campbell County High School and won many local art competitions. She is a two-time state competition second place winner. Baird feels with the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), physical creativity is a dying art and that’s something she wants to change, especially locally.

Blaze, a one time star of the rope and barrel race circuit, with Josh Goins, is one of the horses artists will meet.

Day one camp attendees will be shown how to safely and respectfully enjoy horses. Observing the horses’ interactions with pasture mates and their environment. Attendees will sketch what they see. They will learn how to create gesture drawings and prepare the sketch to be transferred to canvas.

Attendees on day two of the camp will spend the morning transferring their sketch from the day before to their final canvas and completing their piece. The lesson for day two will be focused on watercolor techniques, as well as pen. After lunch, campers will be able to use pet safe paints to color on a real horse.

The camp will be held Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9 from 8 am to 12 pm for ages eight and up in LaFollette at 1713 Back Valley Road. Supplies are provided, and camp attendees will take home an original art piece. No riding is included.
