LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Looking back 74 years, this is a picture of the construction going on for the new Lafollette High School during the summer of 1952.

The school was scheduled to open in the fall of 1952, but that didn’t happen. The school opened in January of 1953 after the move from the old school took place over the Christmas break.

Students moved from this high school to the new high school over Christmas break 1952. McDonald’s now sits on this property.

The building housed the LHS until  1975 when the last and final class ever of Lafollette High School graduated in May.

The building was razed in 1999 with the exception of the  auditorium which still stands today as part of the Lafollette Middle School. The gym, a palace in its day, came down in the summer of 2001. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/28/2026-6AM)
