JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Melissa Brown, President of the Campbell County Historical Society, spoke about the 250th Celebration of the America at Monday’s County Commission workshop. She also asked the commission to help support the event financially with $10,000. This request has been sent to the recreation committee to discuss and have a recommendation in time for next week’s county commission meeting.

“My co-chair is Bill Claiborne.  We brought five other counties in on it; it’s not going to be a onetime thing and will continue moving forward. Cove Lake is going to be the capital of what we call the Norris Highlands … We have our entertainment lined up …. Craft vendors, food trucks. There will be a Parade down main street to honor our veterans and will have the veteran’s picnic,” Brown said.

She told commissioners that help was needed to get this first event off the ground.

“We need help financially; our budget is set at $20,000 and we are asking the county for half of that at $10,000 … It’s such a rich legacy here in Campbell County, it’s a shame to not bring it to the attention of others.  If we don’t keep it going, then who’s going to know?’ Brown said.

The request will be sent to the recreation committee for further discussion. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/14/2026-6AM)
