Forces temporary evacuation at apartments

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- “A mix of alcohol, vinegar and bleach turned into a volatile situation and sent one person to the hospital,” said La Follette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack. A resident in the North 5th Street apartments discovered a cleaning formula on the Internet, and the mix quickly went wrong.
The call for LFD first responders came in at 2:44pm Tuesday. First responders slipped on chemical suits before entering the apartment to assess the patient and the situation. Campbell EMS was paged, and, as a precaution, residents beside and above the apartment of interest were evacuated.

“He (the patient) was suffering respiratory problems. He told me after the container became so hot to touch he knew something was not right,” said Pack.
Campbell EMS transported the man to the La Follette Medical Center followed by the arrival of Daniel Lawson, assistant EMA director. Lawson provided a spill kit.

The apartment was ventilated, and after about an hour and a half, residents were allowed to reenter their apartments. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/06/2026-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF JIMMY PACK AND DANIEL LAWSON)
