JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Monday afternoon at the monthly meeting of the Jacksboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Donna Melton, a resident of the Mtn. Perkins subdivision, was present to address an issue she had recently had with Jacksboro Fire Chief Jason Shetterly.

Melton alleged that workers had been present at the highly opposed building site in the neighborhood and had left a fire smoldering. She called for the fire department to come out to extinguish the smoldering debris. She alleged that when Shetterly arrived at the scene he had yelled at her.

Melton questioned Mayor Shayne Green about what action he had taken with Shetterly after she called and complained to him about the incident. Green reported that Shetterly had been verbally reprimanded for his action. After several minutes of heated discussion, Shetterly reported he spoke with the department of forestry in Nashville about the incident who told him that no action was necessary, because the debris had water on it. He called Nashville for clarification on the issue, because there was not a burn permit on file for the property. Before the discussion ended, Shetterly did apologize to Melton saying “I apologize for how you may have taken me”.

The board then moved onto discussing the stop work order being lifted at the same property. Melton told Green that she had a report from Josh Frazier with TDEC stating that more work was needed at the site to address environmental issues before work could resume. Green reported that Frazier told him the site “was good to go”. Melton forwarded the email she had from Frazier to Green. No action was taken on this matter.

The final item on the agenda was the announcement of a date change for the monthly meeting for May. The meeting will be Mon., May 18, at 2 pm. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-04/28/2026-6AM)
