Expected to vote on a new director of schools

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Since Interim Director of Schools Nancy Lay took leave last week, Campbell County has been without a director of schools. Late Thursday afternoon, the notice of a special called board of education meeting was announced for Tuesday evening to discuss and take any necessary action regarding the appointment of the Campbell County Director of Schools.
Interviews, after Lay decided not to seek the director’s permanent post in an announcement last Wednesday, were conducted on Friday.
Two department heads within the Central Office of the Campbell County School System interviewed Friday to become the next director of schools; Lori Ann Clemons and Charlotte McCoy. Clemons has directed elementary education for seven years while McCoy is in her third year overseeing special education.
“It takes six votes to name a new director. Though they cannot be contracted with until the May board of education meeting,” said Dale Cantrell, attorney for the Campbell Board of Education.
The Campbell County Board of Education will meet today at 6pm in the upper courtroom of the courthouse at Jacksboro. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-04/07/2026-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
