LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- On this Throwback Thursday, we look back 50 years to 1976. In January, the city received the okay to begin moving into the newly renovated municipal building, formerly occupied by LUB.

The 500,000-dollar renovation provided a new home for the Lafollette Police & Fire Departments, a dramatic improvement from the old 1935 municipal build they were in on First Street.

The image above shows LPD Chief Earl Carroll along with Dispatcher Hugh Powers in the new modern communication room. This was a state-of-the-art system for that time period.

As a comparison, the new radio room was larger than the lobby and dispatcher desk at the old station. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/19/2026-6AM)
