It’s been busy lately at the garage the late TJ Sparks founded more than 50 years ago. Jake Templin, above, has brought the shop back to life.

Sparks Diesel is locally owned by Jake Templin, and he celebrated its one-year anniversary in January. Templin’s shop was built and run by TJ Sparks for more than 50 years. Sparks, who worked into his 90s, passed away in 2024. “TJ was like a grandfather to me,” said Templin.

Sparks Diesel is ready to get you rolling or keep you rolling.

Templin has three years of experience in the diesel repair business. He runs two service trucks and will come to your location to repair farm equipment, big rigs and any kind of diesel-powered heavy equipment. Templin also has a garage on site. He will also travel out of state for repairs and “tries to serve all needs in the diesel equipment line.”

Templin would also like to thank customers for supporting the business over the past year!

Sparks Diesel is located on Old Middlesboro Highway, a stone’s throw short of the Claiborne County line. “We’re basically straight across from Pro Angler, but we’re on the old road,” said Templin.

Coming from La Follette, you’ll want to turn right off the Stiner Hwy/Hwy 63 at Well Springs Road. Then go left on Old 63, and we’re less than a mile ahead on the right. The address is 3648 Old Middlesboro Hwy at Speedwell, Tennessee.

T.J. Sparks was likely the only working-everyday 90-year old man in Campbell County when this photo was snapped in November 2023, at his garage.

“Our family is thrilled that Jake has taken over Daddy’s garage. Daddy would be so proud,” said Jennifer Seiber.
