Campbell High multi-sport standout Sam Sexton, Campbell County’s Youth Volunteer of the Year, was recognized by commissioners at Tuesday’s meeting. He, along with his parents attended the meeting for the proclamation.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Campbell County High School’s Sam Sexton was recognized as the county’s Youth Volunteer of the Year at Tuesday’s County Commission meeting.

Sam along with his mom and Dad were at the meeting to be recognized.

“It is an honor tonight to have Sam with us. Each year, there is an award given state-wide to an adult and a youth volunteer of the year, The award honors outstanding community servants across the state through a program called the Governor’s Volunteer Stars Award,” said County Mayor Jack Lynch, adding that it was “quite an honor to have this in the community.”  Those that receive the award are picked by past award recipients and will then help pick the next recipients.

“Sam Sexton has been chosen for his leadership in promoting wellness, mental health and community service.” Sexton also volunteers with the Community Health of East Tennessee clinic and has also helped establish Club America, a new student led group that focuses on service, inclusion and leadership.

“Sam is able to balance academics with athletics, volunteerism, he has established a reputation as a compassionate, dependable leader that represents the very best of Campbell County and the youth therein,” Lynch said.

“We are proud to recognize him,” Lynch added.

This year’s adult volunteer of the year was County Litter Patrol Officer Glennis Monday, who was recognized by the commission last month.

“These two will also be recognized by the governor in March with a trip to Nashville,” Lynch said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-02/18/2026-6AM)
