JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- County Commissioners met on Monday evening in workshop session to set the agenda for next Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting, with contracts and grant applications topping the list for approval. Also, up for approval are surplus items from the sheriff’s department to be auctioned.
A resolution authorizing the submission of a 2026 Community Development Block Grant program application to fund public health and safety will be on the agenda. The request is for funding up to the maximum amount of $420,000.00, of which the county would have to match 9-percent, or $41,538.00. According to county mayor Jack Lynch, “grant funds would be used for a fire engine in Jellico.”
Commissioners will also vote next week to approve a tournament event contract between Campbell County and Morristown Marine for the bass fishing tournament on Norris Lake at Lonas Young Park on April 11th. The contract says the county will provide local law enforcement for traffic control on the roadways and boat ramp entry/exit, a crew to manage parking and traffic flow through the ramp lot and shuttle service if parking overflows to an offsite parking location. The county has agreed to provide these amenities for the economic impact the tournament brings to the county. This is the tournament the county hosts each year.
Also on the agenda is the approval of the 2026 letter of agreement for the Opioid abatement disbursement agreement for county entities. This has to be approved each year by the county if it wishes to receive funds from the Opioid abatement. According to Commission Chairman Johnny Bruce, the county will receive $132,883.45 in abatement funds this year.
Approval of the 2026 litter grant contract between the county and the Tennessee Department of Transportation will also be voted on next week. The litter grant is for $47,700.
Also to be voted on will be a surplus sale from the Sheriff’s department, to include eight county owned vehicles, one seized vehicle and around 52 guns, which will be up for auction once the auction details are worked out. The guns were “seizures from court cases and drug cases.”
Also dilapidated items from the finance department will be approved for surplus.
In other business, commissioners plan to recognize the Campbell County Senior Center next Tuesday, as well as the Youth Volunteer of the Year, Sam Sexton.
Due to Monday’s holiday, Presidents day, the county commission meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 17, 6 pm, in the lower court room at the courthouse. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-02/10/2026-6AM)
