‘He looked to be asleep’- Campbell Sheriff’s Deputy Brahn Teague
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- It was just before 1am on Thursday when a sheriff’s deputy stopped to check on a vehicle parked in front of a business that was not open.
Campbell Sheriff’s Deputy Brahn Teague was passing a store on Old Middlesboro Highway when he noticed a black vehicle, with the engine running, in the parking lot. Teague stopped to check on the driver and found him laying across the center console appearing to be asleep.
The deputy knocked on the driver’s side window several times, and the driver finally woke up and rolled down the window, based on the sheriff’s office report. When asked if everything was okay, the driver, 22-year- old Justin Grant, told the deputy that he was “sleepy and felt weird” so he pulled off at the store to rest.
Teague said in his report that he could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car and asked Grant if he had any weapons in the car. Grant allegedly stated he had a Glock 17 pistol in the car. When asked if he had had anything to drink, Grant allegedly told the deputy that he had a mixed drink at his buddy’s house.
Grant consented to a field sobriety test. He later, at the jail, consented to a blood draw.
Following the field sobriety test, Teague determined that Grant was under the influence.
Grant was then placed under arrest, transported to the county jail and booked into the jail.
