LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Two Campbell County High School Seniors, Harley Lovitt from Jellico High and Mekhi Gibson from Campbell High are rotating off the Campbell Culture Coalition Board of Directors on January 30 after a year of service to the non-profit sector.

They were selected and served with full voting rights and access to all business of the organization, including general operations budgets and planning; art education programs, and production of the Louie Bluie Music & Arts Festival.

“Their contributions to discussions and planning were not only amazing but very valuable to the Board in decisions that impacted every project from the Louie Bluie Rabbit Run to the Festival, and from budgets to complex grant writing,” said Board Member Vikki Burns. Burns with Board Member Starla Giles managed the Junior Board Member program for the Culture Coalition.

“They have exemplified our vision of giving high schoolers the opportunity to learn how a non-profit operates and to actually be hands-on, and we send them our best wishes for very successful careers as they graduate in the Spring of 2026,” Giles said.

Junior Board Members are selected through a process approved by the Campbell County Board of Education which begins in December, resulting in one student from each high school joining the Culture Coalition Board of Directors on February 1. Applications are circulated to school counselors and teachers, who recommend students based on their past leadership exhibited through academic and extracurricular activities.

“This is the first year of the program. We asked the junior board members to participate in monthly board meetings where they had full voting rights. Both students were very active and provided valuable and insightful input. They also volunteered their time both at our 5K and at the Louie Bluie Festival. We are awarding both with scholarship dollars to use at their discretion,” Giles said.

Campbell Culture Coalition board members said, “Miss Lovitt and Mr. Gibson are role models and outstanding examples rooted in their family support, the Campbell County school system, and their inherent desire and ability to excel.”
