LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- On this Throwback Thursday, WLAF’s Charlie Hutson shares a look back at the J.P. and H. P. Miller store that was located on what was known as Main Street back in the day, but today we call it North Tennessee Avenue.
The two brothers came from the Cedar Creek area and started in business in Lafollette at an early age. Later they operated the Lafollette Coal, Iron & Railway commissary. Their last store was Miller’s Department Store on East Central Avenue in the old Novelty Theatre building (today Merrydeath Antique building). They closed that store in 1939. Both were involved in city politics as H.P. was on city council and J.P. was city treasurer. J.P. passed away on September 22, 1949, and H.P. died on January 17, 1953.
