JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- At its Tuesday evening meeting, the Campbell County Board of Education approved to name Valley View Elementary School’s gymnasium basketball court after Principal Jason Dotson.

According to BOE Chairman and first district member Jeffrey Miller, the surprise was unveiled at the school’s last home basketball game.

“We unveiled this a few weeks ago at Valley View’s last home game of the season so it would be a surprise for Jason,” Miller said, adding that the lettering would be put on the court most likely over the Christmas break.

Miller said he wanted to “pursue the naming of the basketball court inside the Walt Goins Gymnasium at Valley View after Mr. Dotson for his many years of service and his dedication.”

Valley View’s basketball court will now be known as Jason Dotson Court, after the BOE approved this at Tuesday’s meeting. Dotson holds a banner reflecting what the court will look like after the lettering is painted on it.

“Jake has over 20-plus years within Campbell County schools of which he has been principal at Valley View for 13 years. His dedication to the basketball program from being a coach several seasons to the principal speaks volumes the commitment he has proven to our school. He’s a husband, a father of four boys and the level of commitment he’s given over the years is great and we thank him for that,” Miller said.

First district BOE member Lisa Fields congratulated Principal Dotson, saying it was “well deserved.”

“This is a well-deserved honor and recognition for all of his hard work and dedication to Valley View Elementary. We are blessed to have him in administration. He always goes above and beyond for all students!” Fields said.

Dotson said that it came as a complete surprise, and he was “utterly humbled” by the dedication, adding that it was the school staff, students and parents that deserved the recognition.

Valley View Principal Jason Dotson has been an educator in Campbell County for 23 years and has been at Valley View for 13 years. He said he was “utterly humbled” to have the school’s ball court named after him.

“I want to thank our wonderful school board for this incredible honor. I am deeply humbled to think someone thought my name was deserving to be on our gym floor. I would like to think that whatever my contributions have been to Valley View were only possible because of all the amazing support from our staff, students, and parents of our school community!” Dotson said.

“I think naming the court after one of our own Bobcats is a fantastic thing and I’m proud to stand with him day in and day out to deliver the best for our students at Valley View. The gym floor inside the Walt Goins Gym will now forever be called, “The Jason Dotson Court”, job well done,” Miller said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/20/2025-6AM-PHOTOS SUBMITTED)
