STONEY FORK, TN. (WLAF)- An investigation into the Stoney Fork Volunteer Fire Department has revealed four deficiencies in how it operates. It also revealed questionable purchases made by the then fire chief.
The chief allegedly misused the department’s debit card from January 2024 through July 2025 for items totaling $363, the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office report said. Personal items that included food, dog food, bird feed and medications were purchased on the department’s card. He mistakenly used that card instead of his own, he said. In October, the chief repaid the $363, according to the report.
As the comptroller was investigating, the chief allegedly made additional “questionable purchases” totaling $2,389, according to the report. The purchases included fuel, auto parts, and other items. He didn’t have itemized receipts or documentation. Without the required documentation, it was unknown if the items were for the benefit of the department, the report said.
