City of LaFollette Attorney Karen Crutchfield

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Yesterday afternoon, the LaFollette City Council voted to hire Karen Crutchfield as the new city attorney. There were three candidates in total who applied for the position, those candidates were Steve Hurst, Dail Cantrell and Karen Crutchfield.

The council approved an event permit for Sandra Thurman to do a worship walk on Nov. 29 from 4 pm to 5 pm on Tennessee Avenue.   

Cameras in the city have proven beneficial, and now the city is looking to add 14 additional cameras. The cameras will be placed at the walking trail behind city hall, three cameras in back of the parking lot behind city hall, splash pad, the ball field, the police impound area, three cameras at the RV park, tank springs and the community center.  The cost of the cameras is $6,400 which will be almost covered by a PEP Conservation Grant, the city will need to contribute an additional $1,700 to cover the complete cost. The council approved the purchase.

Two full time positions were approved. First was the promotion of Christian Mullins to a full time patrolman, next was the promotion of James Lay to a full time operator in the public works department. Both promotions will be effective Nov. 15.

Three resolutions were on the agenda for approval at the monthly meeting beginning with Resolution 2025-19 authorizing the City of LaFollette to participate in the PEP Risk Management Pool (drivers’ safety) Loss Control Matching Grant Program. Next is Resolution 2025-20 administrative services for Community Development Partners (State of Tennessee fiscal year 2025 parks and recreation program) and then Resolution 2025-21 engineering services for Ardurra Group (State of Tennessee FY 2025 parks and recreation program), both of the resolutions are for services at the proposed sports complex.  All of the resolutions were approved.
