Fans, players and coaches are thrilled about a second scoreboard at Walt Goins Gym

Valley View Elementary School alums Jason Dotson, Rhonda Longmire and Jeffrey Miller dedicated the new VVES Gym scoreboard on Tuesday afternoon.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The new Community Trust Bank scoreboard at Valley View Elementary School’s Walt Goins Gym was dedicated on Tuesday afternoon. However, the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats were able to use their new scoreboard for the last few games of the basketball season.

“We came down the floor on a fast break, and the ball handler lost the ball. I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was looking back at the clock. And I reminded him that we now have two scoreboards. He was like, oh, I forgot,” said Valley View Coach and Principal Jason Dotson.

The new scoreboard is on the wall on the mountain side of the gym.

“We want to thank Mrs. Longmire, her family and her late father (Walt Goins); pillars of this community in Valley View. The moment I asked, there was no hesitation that Mrs. Longmire and Community Trust Bank delivered to make this new scoreboard possible. We appreciate them and their support of Valley View School and the school system as a whole; Community Trust Bank does a lot of good for our school system, and we appreciate it,” said Jeffrey Miller, Chairman of the Campbell County School Board.

“We’re thrilled to death at Community Trust Bank to be able to support the schools in the county. We’re obviously pleased to do the sign for Valley View, which is the school I grew up in. So that means a lot. We have a great person in our first district here with Jeff Miller asking us to do that. We do a lot in the community, and our biggest is supporting the schools,” said Longmire, Market President of Community Trust Bank.

The new scoreboard is identical to the older scoreboard on the other end of the gym.

“We’re just blessed to have a community partner in Community Trust Bank. They help us in so many ways from getting materials and such to get our school year started. When we asked Mrs. Longmire about helping us with the scoreboard, there was no hesitation,” said Dotson. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/05/2025-6AM)
