LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Campbell County Rotarians learned about the Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service (SCHAS) from Campbell and Scott County Director Malinda Perry who guest spoke at Tuesday’s Rotary Club Luncheon at the LaFollette Methodist Church.

Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service is a non-profit organization that provides in-home care to improve the quality of life for the elderly and disabled. SCHAS has been serving Campbell County since 2004.

As Perry put it, “SCHAS allows people to age in place. Caregivers go into people’s homes and provide housekeeping, personal care and shopping.

According to SCHAS.org, “In the 1960s, a federal survey highlighted the need for in-home care to improve the quality of life for the elderly and disabled, demonstrating that such care could effectively delay or even eliminate the need for more expensive institutional options. Responding to this need, Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service, Inc. (SCHAS) was founded in 1970 with support from federal and local governments, civic organizations, churches, and generous individuals. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency, SCHAS has been a pioneer in providing in-home care for the elderly and disabled in East Tennessee.”

Perry spoke about her journey with SCHAS and how “God has placed her where she needs to be.”
