Back seat passenger goes to jail after car’s driver pulled over in traffic stop

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- It was a stop sign violation on a 2024 gray Nissan Altima that led to Hunter Lynn Wilson going to jail. Wilson wasn’t driving the car. He was a passenger, in the back seat.

Early Wednesday afternoon, LaFollette Police Department Narcotics Det. Noah Riggs pulled over the Nissan near the East Prospect intersection with North Cumberland Avenue. A stop sign violation prompted the traffic stop.

As Riggs talked to the front seat passenger about drug traffic, Wilson started talking over the conversation Riggs was having. Wilson allegedly became very loud and continued to get more and more aggressive, loud and threatening, according to the police report.

Due to Wilson’s behavior and the concern for the officers’ safety, Riggs asked Wilson to step out of the car for a frisk for a weapons only frisk, based on the report. Riggs noted Wilson then became even more combative.

Multiple officers gave Wilson several opportunities to come out of the vehicle. He did not. Officers forcefully removed Wilson from the car, and he stated that he had a warrant anyway, according to the police report.

Hunter Lynn Wilson, 30, 220 Ivydale Road, La Follette, was charged with resisting-stop-frisk-halt-arrest or search. Wilson was released from the Campbell County Jail this morning at 1:48 on a $1,000 secure bond and is scheduled for court later this month. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-10/03/2025-6AM)
