After more than 35 years, ETHRA will no longer administer the Commodity Program

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- It was an historical day Wednesday at the former West End School as it marked the end of East Tennessee Human Resource Agency’s run to distribute food in Campbell County. That run dates back to the mid-1980s.
Wednesday’s turnout was like the old days, according to one ETHRA employee. The line was long and steady all day until all the food had been distributed. The big perk was that there was extra food given away, and it really brought out a crowd.
Starting in October, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee will be the contact for USDA Commodities.
This change is not due to federal funding cuts, based on a letter handed out to participants.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Second Harvest at 865.243.8231 or email Rick Hessler at rick@secondharvestetn.org.
