JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The “danger” of several turnoffs along State Highway 63 going up the valley, the General Carl Stiner Highway, were once again discussed at Monday’s commission workshop.
Commissioner Beverly Hall brought up the Davis Chapel turnoff again, saying people are still using the shoulder as a turning lane and that “it’s going to cause another bad accident.”

She said she had almost been hit several times and was still receiving complaints about it, and that it already “needed to be repaved as well.”
Commissioners Dewayne Kitts said he sees “the same thing every day at the turnoff by Big O’s up the valley.”
“I had one nearly hit me too,” Kitts said.
“They are so used to having it as a turning lane; maybe some lines painted across it would help,” said County Mayor Jack Lynch.
Commissioner Rusty Orick asked the mayor if he could request from the state a copy of the original layout.
“I was told that it was supposed to have turning lanes. For some reason this one got took out, they will probably tell you there is no such thing,” Orick said.
Lynch said he would reach back out to the state to see what could be done. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/09/2025-6AM)
Just put the turn lanes back in before someone gets killed.
The first time they did it, early in the project, there WAS a turn off lane there, when they scrapped it up to connect it to the 4 lane it wasn’t put back! It needs a turn off lane, the turn is too sharp, you HAVE to slow down/almost stop, to turn right there. I have almost been rear ended there several times.
Simple to solve. Add turning lanes.
