It’s the first Region 3-AAAAA game of the season for Campbell and Karns

KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF)- “The team’s excited about this week,” said Campbell Head Football Coach Taylor Ownbey. It’s Karns. Though Karns is not a next door neighbor, the Cougars and Beavers have always had a back yard-type rivalry. That rivalry renews tonight at The Dam in a seven o’clock kick-off. WLAF has the live telecast.
Both teams are winless through four games entering this first Region 3-AAAAA game of the season.
“Karns poses a lot of threats, especially on special teams. Their offense and defense, just watching on film, they are well coached. It’s going to take a great effort on our part to come out on top,” said Coach O.
Friday’s match-up marks the 47th meeting dating back to 1977, a 7-0 Karns win. Campbell lost a 32-25 heartbreaker last season at The Dam after trailing 32-7. The Beavers hold a 27-19 edge in the series.
When asked about three keys needed for a Cougar win, Coach Ownbey responded with a grin. “Offense, defense and special teams. I’m tellin’ ya. It’s those three aspects, and I’d almost emphasize special teams a little bit more because of how well they (Karns) do on those special teams,” said Coach O. It prompted the Cougars to put more emphasis on special teams this week in practice.
