‘They’re smart, and they’re making you think they are with Comcast. But it’s a scam’- Victim

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- An elderly Stone Mill woman has been scammed out of $500 . The thievery happened when a caller told her he was with Comcast and was calling to help her with her television. “I’d had trouble with my new Comcast boxes I got the other day, and I just thought he was calling to help me,” said the 82-year old lady.

She had recently gone to Oak Ridge for two new cable boxes, and her daughter helped her set them up. However, she was having a tough time to get reception.

“A man called me about ten o’clock the other night, told me my TV is ready to go, and it worked. Then he began asking me questions. He sure sounded legitimate, and then I gave him information about my checking account,” said the senior citizen.

She’s had to change her checking account with her bank, go to the Social Security office for help there, and she’s thinking about changing her telephone number. “They’ve kept calling me even after I found them out,” she said.

“My bank has been great about all of this, and they are working to get my $500 back. I want people to know about this so they won’t be taken like I was,” said the victim. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/14/2025-6AM)
