The mayor and council for the City of LaFollette held their regular monthly meeting

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The LaFollette City Council met Tuesday afternoon for the regular monthly meeting.

Several bids were recently received for vehicles and bleachers. The first bid to be approved was for bleachers for Liberty Park. The council rejected this bid and will rebid the bleachers.

The council approved a bid from Ray Varner Ford for two responder trucks for $96,816. Next was a vehicle for the city administrator, one bid was received for a Toyota Forerunner for $49,252, the council approved the bid. Finally two administrative vehicles for the police department were approved. The city received one bid for $100,330.60 for two Toyota Tundra trucks.

The clock in downtown LaFollette will be replaced at Freeman Corner. Tuesday afternoon, the council approved the purchase of a new clock with a price tag of $27,701. The clock comes with chimes and a three year warranty. The council approved a maintenance agreement for the clock. The agreement will cost the city $760 annually, and the clock will not need to be maintenanced for the first five years it is in operation.

The recreation department has a playground structure they want to declare as surplus, and the council approved it as surplus.  

Brian Younce was appointed an E-911 Board Member, this seat was vacated by the recent passing of Danny Marsee.

Several promotions were approved beginning with promoting Laura Smith to assistant finance director.  The police department promoted the following officers beginning with Jami Wadle to a full time lieutenant/detective, Justin Tackett to a full time patrolman, Aidyn Fudala to a full time patrolman, Kayliegh Norman to a full time patrolman and Tavian McCullah to a full time patrolman. The public works department had one promotion, Christopher Richardson to a full-time laborer. All promotions are effective Aug. 23, 2025.

Three ordinances had a final reading beginning with Ordinance 2025-08 abandoning a portion of West Mountain Lane within the corporate city limits of LaFollette, Ordinance 2025-09 code section 15-121 regulating the use of motorcycles, motor driven cycles, motorized bicycles, bicycles, etc. and Ordinance 2025-11 setting rules and regulations for the City of LaFollette RV Park.

Two resolutions were approved, Resolution 2025-14 amending the 2025/2026 budget and Resolution 2025-15 authorizing the City of LaFollette to participate in PEP Risk Management Pool (Safety Partners) Loss Control Matching Grant Program.

  1. 27,000 on a clock!! The sidewalks in town are nearly unusable! Spend the money on improving the sidewalks before the city gets a lawsuit against them from someone getting hurt!
