PINEVILLE, KY (WLAF)- For the Cougars’ Christmas tourney, the Orange-and-Blue traveled to Pineville, Kentucky, and played at Bell County High School on Friday, Saturday, and Monday.

On Friday, the Cougars played Jackson County, Kentucky, in game one of the Redmond Auto Classic.

It was a back-and-forth first three quarters between the Cougars and the Generals. The fourth quarter was all Campbell.

When the horn sounded the Cougars won game one 63-54.

Luke Browning led scoring with 24 points; Gavin Cox was right behind him with 17 points. Eight points came from Gavin Owens, seven from Jake Hatmaker. Will Croley and Keegan Nelson rounded out the scoring column with two points each.

In game two on Saturday, Campbell battled the host team. The Bobcats of Bell County stood in the way of a championship game for Campbell. That road block was one the Cougars could not get around.

Bell County blitzed Campbell in the first quarter scoring 25 points and leading by ten plus points. The ‘Cats maintained at least an eight point lead throughout the game.

Campbell rallied, cutting the lead to single digits at one point, but it would not get any closer.

Bell County defeated the Cougars by a final score of 76-66.

Four Cougars finished in double digits. Gavin Cox totaled 18 points, Luke Browning chalked up 15, Gavin Owens finished with 14 points, and Keegan Nelson scored 10 points. Also in the scoring column was Jake Hatmaker with six, and Will Croley totaled two.

From Berea, Kentucky, the Madison Southern Eagles were the opponent for your Cougars in the third place game on Monday evening.

Late in the game, the Cougars were down by as many as 18 points. Campbell again rallied, cutting the deficit to six points with 1:40 to go in the basketball game. Then the Orange-and-Blue found themselves down five with just over a minute to go thanks to a Jake Hatmaker three.

However, Southern sunk its free throws, winning by a tally of 75-68.

For a second game in a row, four Cougars finished with double digits. Tops in scoring for the Orange-and-Blue in game three was Luke Browning with 18 points. Will Croley finished with 15 points. Jake Hatmaker scored 11 points; Gavin Cox tallied 10. Gavin Owens contributed seven points. Keegan Nelson scored four points, Brady Hatmaker rounded out the column with 3 points.

Campbell, 8 & 6 in all games and 1 & 1 in District 3, is away from game action until January 3rd when it hosts the Clinton Dragons.
