Campbell sweeps through three games in five days

CORRYTON, TN (WLAF)- It was Thanksgiving tournament week last week, and the Lady Cougars on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday traveled to Corryton to take part in the Nextgen Athletics Classic at Gibbs High School.

It was an easy win for the Orange-and-Blue in the first game against Carter. Campbell coasted to a 67-22 victory against the Lady Hornets.

The second game however was a battle between two juggernauts. In the semifinal, Campbell County matched up with last season’s sub-state contender, Morristown East.

This had a sub-state game feel as neither team led by more than five points. The Lady Cougars jumped out to a quick lead and East responded, taking a 28-23 lead at halftime.

Lacey Pemberton was the spark for Campbell County. Pemberton’s 13 points in the second half, along with the entire team’s clutch free throw shooting down the stretch, fueled the Lady Cougars comeback. The “Girls in Blue and Orange” advanced to the championship game following the 45-42 win.

In the championship game, again, it was easy sailing for the Lady Cougars. Campbell County dominated the host team Gibbs, 57-21 to bring home the tournament championship.

Campbell, now 5 and 0 on the season, travels to Clinton on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars-Lady Dragons begin their battle at 6pm.
